Judgement is a multiplayer game mode, released in the 0.110 beta version.[1]

It is a limited format, i.e. players don't use their collection of scrolls in Judgement matches. Instead, they create a bespoke deck from a random selection and use it for a limited number of competitive matches. Then players get rewarded depending on their performance.[2] Judgement ends when the player wins five matches or loses two, whichever comes first,[3] which means it can last up to six matches.

Deck building

Players select one out of four scrolls per row until they have a total of 45. Each row contains scrolls of the same rarity and a scroll can't appear twice on the same row.

The scrolls rarity in rows is cycling as follows:[3]

  1. Rare
  2. Common
  3. Uncommon
  4. Common
  5. Common
  6. Uncommon
  7. Common

As a consequence, players draw 7 rare, 13 uncommon and 25 common scrolls.

Then they build a deck using at least 30 scrolls in a dedicated deck builder which only shows scrolls previously picked. Once the deck is saved, it can't be altered anymore and it will only be valid for the next Judgement matches, until one of the two end condition is met. It is not displayed in the list of regular decks.

Players can only own one Judgement deck at a time, but they can discard it at any time. If they do so, they still earn rewards (as if remaining matches were defeats).

Entrance fee

The entrance fee for playing Judgement is 800 gold or 120 Shards.[3]

Rewards

Players get no gold at the end of games, but they collect rewards when Judgement ends, which is after five wins, two losses, or when they withdraw their deck. Then a special screen allows them to pick their rewards from the list of scrolls they played in the deck. Scrolls that were picked for the initial 45 scrolls but weren't included in the deck can't be chosen.

Rewards are based on the number of matches a player won with that deck. It does not take into account defeats (i.e. 5 straight wins is considered the same as a defeat and 5 wins).

Below is the prize list for each possible win count.

Overview

The Judgement mode has been previewed in Mojang's video about the Judgement Update. Note that some elements of it are outdated.

History

When Judgement was first introduced into the game, and until the 0.117 beta update, decks always ended after five matches, whether they were wins or not. Additionally, there were no rarity constraints when picking scrolls at the beginning, so scrolls rarity was mixed in rows. The entrance fee was 1,000 gold or 150 Shards,[4] and rewards were the following:
